There was nothing lugubrious about tho Rev. Archibald G. Brown's farewell services at tho Metropolitan- Tabernacle on Sunday, December 18. On the contrary,'thcro was an atmosphere of cheerfulness in the services, and Mr. Brown himself drow attention to tho fact that "no funeral hymns havo been selected for this occasion." - After three and a half years''ministry, Mr. Brown leaves the -Metropolitan" Tabernaclo stronger tban ho found it, and on December 18 r—though, porhaps, tho special naturo of the service attracted some visitors —the congregation must have exceeded two thousand. Mr.*, Brown has a genius of his own.' His power is resident in his spiritual forco and - his capacity for simple Scriptural exposition. Ho clings so staunchly to tho "old paths'' that one was almost astonished to hear him championing tho'Revised Version rendering of a Paulino text against tho Authorised Version. Only, quito parenthetically did' Mr. Brown refer to his retirement, but be remarked that though ho might not bo pastor of the Tabernacle, ho was not withdrawing from its membership. At tho close of the evening service, which was crowded to excess','several deacons and others bore testimony to tho value of Mr. Archibald Brown's threo and a half years of successful ministry.'. About 400 members of the Church have been enrolled during that period.
