THE INDUSTRY EXPANDING. Tho-current ,dairy so far been n good'ono throughout tho North Island, but tho South Island has not laieU-so well. In Utcgo; tlio very (try weather has been a tenons thing to tho formers and Southlanders havo also stiftured, though not so severely. Tho industry is expanding in both islands, but the rato of progress has been greater in this ■ island tnan in tho south'.:'!".: In the south, tho expansion hos been chiefly in tho thv&o"business. For this there does not appear.'to' bo "any particular reason. Anyuow, thero; is no new cause operating. Cheoso was choson as tho manufacturo of tho earlieV lactones, and the later factories havo followed as ehccso makers. It costs lessjjto start a cheese concern than a butter'factory. In the Auckland district thero has been a. big expansion of dairying, IJut less than tho cxnectoJ quantity ot nroduco has been reported from tho port of Auckland. .In tact a great deal of the Auckland province's butter is shipped . from . Wellington. It is taken to' untitling", and from there there is a service to' Wellington, via Greymouth.
