6 . MR. LOJUS APPOINTED. Following on the retirement of Miy Tregear, Secretary for Labour and Begis* trar of Industrial Unions, the Cabinet* has decided on tho following appoint-*, ments:—

Mr. John Lomas (at present Chief In«*. spector of Factories and Deputy Registrar* ot Industrial Unions) to bo Secretary for; Labour, Registrar of Industrial and Chief Inspector of Factories. Mr. F. TV. itovlcy (at DeputyChief Inspector of Factories) is- to bo : Chief Clerk, Deputy Registrar of trial Unions, and Deputy Chief Inspector?' of Factories.

Mr. Lomas has served. twenty years is| the Department of Labour, having joinecS a few days after its inception. ISe had been for some tiiae previously employed in the mines-on the West Coast. Aftei spending two years in Wellington, h$ went in 1803 to Christchurch as senioijr. Inspector of Factories, a position whictt he held for twelve years. In 1905 Mr* Loraas was transferred to Dunedin, ia which town also he filled the post of senior inspector., Coming to Wellington in IUO7, he was appointed Deputy Cliier* •Inspector. Mr. J. Mackay, who was therf Chief Inspector, died a few months aftej Mr. Lomas arrived, and the latter appointed 'to succeed him. Mr. Lomad has been Chief Inspector of Factories eveij since.

Mr. Boivley joined the Department inj 1893 as cadet, became accountant in 1906J and Deputy Chief Inspector in 1907 i
