Sir George Darwin, in a paper read before the Royal Society, said that, after comparing Sir Ernest Sbackleton and Captain Scott's tide records, he had arrived at the conclusion • that they suggest the existence of a deep hay- stretching across, and almost cutting in two, the Antarctic Continent.
