BOOKLETS ON COST OF LIVING.

DEPARTMENT'S EFFORT. In all, about 2000 "cost of living" booklets'have been issued by the Labour Department, and it is not intended to issue any more until this batch has'been returned. :The books are intended to show household expenditure for twelve months, and .the greater part of this period:has still to run. Most of the books were distributed through Labour unions, and the Department, as a rule, is not in direct touch with the persons to whom they have been'entrusted. - Some attempt will probnbly be made next month, however, to discover with what rqeasuro of thor-1 oughness the records are being-kept.
