HANDS AT OTIRA TUNNEL
CESSATION OP WORK. (By Telegrapt—Press Association.! Christchurch, Jestuut 30. The Otira correspondent of the "Press" telegraphed at o o'clock this afternoon as follows:—"The foul' o'clock c-:rt refused to go into the tunnel this aiternoon. It seems that, at a meeting of the local union last night, a deputation was appointed to wait upon Jli\ M'Lcnn to discuss some matters pertaining to tho work. One of tho deputation was a Jlr. Armstrong, who is not employed by Jlr. Jl'Leau, and tho latter refusetl to discuss matters with any people who were not his employees. At 4 o'clock the men —some forty-eight of them—took their carbide and apparently prepared to go to work, but, instc-ad, they went to the tunnel hall to a meeting, where Mr. Jl'Lean met them, and repeated what he had already told them. At present the work at the tunnel is at a. standstill, and the men are discussing the situation.
