PREFERENTIAL VOTING.
A PRACTICAL TEST. A practical test of the system of preferential voting by the single transferable' vote frill be' made at next Wednesday's meeting of the Labour party when six candidates, to contest tne forthcoming municipal election are to bo selected from fifteen nominees. Voters will be asked to indicate the order of preference in which they place tho candidates by numbering them one, two, three, etc. If a sufficient number of candidates are not elected on number one votes tho next step will be to eliminate tho candidates who have received the lowest number of votes. This will release a body of number two votes which may bring about the desired result' of giving each candidate a majority. If not elimination of low-placed candidates and transference of votes will be continued until the result is attained. So that thero may lis uo question as to the result' of tho voting on Wednesday next the Labour pnrty has asked Mr. P. J. O'Regan to attend the meeting and act as scrutineer.
