FIRES.

OUTBREAK IN THE CITY. Yesterday the fire brigade had a busy timo from early . morning onwards. Tho first call was'received at 4:27 a.m., from Tory Street, a' fire having broken out at No.' 4 Charlotte Avenue, a fourroomed houso, owned ,by Mrs. Monaghan, of Karori, and occupied by Mr., James A. Fowler. Before tho flames were- suppressed, the building and" contents were badly damaged. The fire is believed to bave originated in tho kitchen, but the cause is unknown. Tbo contents were insured for £75 in tho Australian Alliance Office.

.At about 11 a.m. the brigade . was nailed on to suppress a fire'in a washhouso attached to ; a seven-roomed dwelling at 100 Hanson Street, Newtown.
