THE WAIKANAE YEARLINGS.
ANNUAL SALE. SOME EXCELLENT PRICES, Tho annual sale of the Waikanao yearlings took pjaco at Mr. Lan Duncan's private stables, Thorndon Qua}*, yesterday afternoon,.and was a very successful one. It was a beautiful afternoon, and several hundred peoplo attended the sale, the gathering at the ringside being a record one, so far as tho Waikanae sales are concerned. Tho majority of the principal owners in tho Dominion were present, and others Wero represented by their trainers. Thirteen lots were submitted to auction, and, with a single exception, they wore sold without reserve, and realised a total sum of 3180 guineas. The average price of over 244 guineas is ail improvement oil any previous Waikanae sale. Bidding for several of the lots\was exceedingly brisk and only two of,the youngsters failed to reach three-figure prices. The top price reached was 775 guineas, at which tho Charlemagne—Lady Helen colt fell to Mr. G. D. Greenwood, of Christclmrch. Tho bidding • started at 300 guineas. An own sister to Peirene realised 4.00 ' guineas, While an Achilles— Stepina colt and an Acl;illes—Marseillaiso.filly each brought 300 guineas. Mr. G. L. Stead secured threo lots and Mr! G.
