The, Kairanga and llauavatu County Councils lmvo considered and .endorsed Dr. Martin's proposal-.to raise for the purchase of radium for use at the Palmerston Hospital. The opinions of councillors as to how this sum should'be raised were many and diverse, hut they were unanimous in that it was desirable that the radimp should be procured, more especially for use in cancer cases. Some councillors expressed the opinion that the money should be raised by an increased levy, and thus come directly from' the ratepayers, while other volunteered' to collect, one member remarking that, although ho did not relish collecting, lie felt that it was his duty to do so. The matter Ims been taken up in such a spirit that it is fnirlv safe to predict that it will not bo long beforo the .£3OOO is raised by subscriptions, which will carry with it the Government subsidy of 21s. in the £.
