RAPID IMPRESSIONS.
• MR. BEEBY'S TEN DAYS. By Telegraph-Press Association-Oopyricht. Sydney, January 11. Mr. Beeby, the 'New South Wales Minister for Labour, who-recontly toured the Dominion, declares that although New-Zealand spends more per head than New ' South Wales on ' education, he doubts if the results 1 Tire so good. He said.he had noticed a want of uniformity in the methods in different districts;, also a tendency to stagnation and; no wide interchange'of teachers, or ideas. . Regarding industrial ■ legislation, Mr. Beeby said: "It is clear'-New Zealand is reaching the. limit of industrial regulation. Employees realise that, there is not much hope of a further- increase in wages. This makes-the .position intensely interesting. The further progress ,of New Zealand depends 'upon all the'energies of the Government i being devoted to the increase of primary production. Proposed legislation shows that the Government realises this fact." State enter; prises had done much to break rings an 4 combinations, which .had unnaturally, inflated prices. .-It was evident,- -however, that there, wa.9 still tile shipping ring, which kept up freight."-/. ■
tie. had been, struck iby the, fact that legislation for the. protection of the weaker sections of tho community in the Dominion, was'far in advance of. that of the Australian. States. • • •
Mr. Beebv -states'.tbat one of the first measures he will introduce into Parliament will be a Bill' providing for State insurance, which, he says,... is. an undoubted success in Neif'Zealah'd.
Mr.' Beeby spent from December 28 to January 6' m. New * Zealand, arriving- at -and departing from .Wellington.on those dates—a total '■ of ten days,- inclusive.
