DARING ESCAPE.

A sensational escape from Darlinghurst Gaol occurred early, this afternoon. Two young men named Maco. aud Denmead, who were under,committal on a chargo of stealing, left the exercise yard, and after crossing several wal)s and fences sealed tho outer wall, thirty feet high, with the assistance of their braces tied together. ... • The prisoners then dropped into the street and got clear away. . ■ Tho cscape was■ made.''in of a number of people, and. the first intimation the gaol : authorities -had that tho men were missing cama from a, tram guard, who saw tho escapees running away. .

.. One bystander watched the' climb for liberty under the impression that some enterprising moving picture peoplo had arranged the affair for biograph purposes. Immediately the authorities discovered tho escape all the available police were started on the hunt. The police are confident of recapturing the''men.

Darlinghurst Gaol- occupies the crown of a hill in a populous part of the cityof Sydney, at the intersection of Oxford .Street with Bourko and Forbes Streets. It.covers a space of.nearly six acres, and consists of a series of' wings grouped around aud radiating from a ceUtral •tower, the wholp surrounded by a lofty wall.
