A ROYAL ROMANCE.
FIRST PLAIN CITIZEN TO MAEKY KOYALTY. The death of Dr. ITelchoir Willim, an eminent physician of Bre?kiu, at the age ox 57, rccalls a romance of thirty years ago, which at that time (writes the Berlin correspondent of the San Francisco "Chroniclo") sent a thrill ot alarm through the royal houses of Europe. Dr ■ Willim was the first ordinary citizen to captivate and marry a princess of royal blood. Oil May 1, 1880, he married Princess Paulina of Wurttemberg, who was then 2G years of age The King of Wnrttemberg had made ambitious matrimonial plans for this Princess, and tlioro was a huge scandal when sue deoiiled to marry this medical man. She had made his acquaintance at a bilcsian castle owned by her parents. It was onlv after long opposition that King Charles I of Wurttemborg gave his con=enf to this mesalliance, and only after l'rincesa Paulino had agreed formallv to rononnce all her rights as a member of the royal family on the day of her wedding, and to adopt for herself the title of Hnroness von ICirbach. She remained i'riendlv with, her mother, who died in 18111, but nil the rest of her royal relatives boycotted her relentlessly ever afterward. She has borne their displeasure without unhappiiicss, has been a "ood wife to her husband, aiding him in his work, and lias taken a keen interest in politics. When studying social question?, flip Princess was a regular visitor at Socialist meeting* in Kreslau. Now, alter the death of her husband, she has decided to continue residence in Breslau and to devolfl herself to the many charitable works in which her husband was keenly interested.
