Duriedin, January 5. , An accident which . occurred at luatangata last month terminated fatally in the Dunedin Hospital to-day. A; girl named Elizabeth Leitch, aged U years, was playing hopscotch near her parents residence: The lines were indistinct, and the girl's little brother was marking them in with V hayfork. Sho tripped on the fork and 'fell, and one of the prongs entered her left eyo. After receiving medical attention for a week she seemed all light, but sho subsequently complained of pains in 'tho head, and ivos removed to the hospital. The cause of death was an abscess on tho brain. ,

Palmerston, January 5. Further particulars have been ,received iu connection with the shooting accident at Sandon on. Saturday, by which an eight-year-old girl, named Neita Thompson, was shot through the breast, the bullet being extracted from the back. It appears that tho child was with Mrs. "ioung when the latter 'was dusting the bedroom. A loaded revolver was kept in the room, and Mrs. Young had lifted the I weapon to do some dusting when it went off quite unexpectedly.
