They have recently joined the Waterside workers' Union, and. ask for the rates of pay ruling in other centres—ls. Gd. per Jiour, and 2s. Gd. an hour overtime—also a. half-holiday on Saturday. They refused to work the three s.teamers in port —the' Aorere, Mana, and Kapuni—unless their demands were acceded to, and the officers and crews of the vessels dis-. charged and loaded cargo, the vessels getting out of port without hindrance.
