GREYMOUTH HARBOUR BOARD.
ANNUAL MEETING. (By Telegraph—Press"' Asiociatlon.) ; ' Greymoutli, December 20. Tho chairman's annual report at the meeting of the ■ Greymouth. Harbour Board set: forth that the gross , receipts since January t had, amounted to =£30,736 lis. 7d., made, up as follows Grey-Brunner railway and wharf, .£22,179 ss. 5d.; land endowments, .£374 7s. Gd.; .to wages, rents, and miscellaneous items, ,£944 9s. 8(1.; special rate on coal, ,£7238 9s. "Besides this," said the chairman, "I anticipate that the sum of .£4500 for railway revenue,' special rate due by State mine, and other items, is ret to come in. so that the total receipts for the year should amount to over .£35,000. On the expenditure- side, tho board has paid ,£17,976 9s. for interest and sinking fund on loans, but, of this amount, the sum of .£4976 9s.'represented arrears . from last year. The harbour dredging and tug services cost .£4155 Os. 2d. j office expenses (including interest on overdraft), ,£1749 7s. 10d.; engineer's department, .£344 85;..4d.j: members' travelling expenses, ~£lOO 165.; repair and maintenance' of dredges and plant, 3s.- 4d.; other expenses, ,£249.175. 7d. No new works have been undertaken during the year, but the expenditure on works already authorised has been as follows:— Harbour improvement scheme (work done by Railway Department), .£393 15s. Bd.; lagoon wharves.- £m 9s. 9d.; land claims for lagoon dock settled, .£4887 7s. The total expenditure has, therefore, been ■£30,798 14s. Bd. The bank overdraft at the beginning of the year was .£6674 15s. lid. It was reduced 'at the beginning of this month to ,£ISOO, but, owing to the payment ol land claims, nonamounts to ,£OSBB. The most, notable event during the year has been, the passing of the Board's Loan Consolidation Bill for .£400,000. When this is floated it will enable the board to redeem all its short-dated debentures amounting to .£200,000, pay off all advances and indebtedness, and have about .£164,000 with which to complete the works. Altogether, the outlook for the coming year is most promising." Mr. Campbell was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year.
