WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of the (Wellington Presbytery was held at St. John's Church yesterday morning. Thero were present: Rev. Mr. Inglis (Moderator), Rev. Messrs. Shirer, Douglas, Stowell; Comrie, M'Caw, Elliott, A. Thomson, A. S. Thompson, Gibson, Smith, Staudage, and Messrs. Coates, Johnston, MTarlane, and Allan. •' Apologies for absenco, were received from the Rev. Mr. Paterson, and Dr.' Gibb. The Rev. A. S. Thompson, 8.A., 8.D., of Masterton, was elected Moderator of the Presbytery for the ensuing, six months. A cordial welcome was extended to Mr. Thompson on his .return from a trip to England and Scotland. Appreciative reference to the recent General Assembly held itv Auckland, was made by tho Rev. Mr. Inglis,, and other representatives.. Inter alia, he stated that the business meeting and public functions had reached a high level of excellence. A request was received from St. Andrew's, Pongaroa, for permission to raise a' loan for various improvements to tho property of . the Church. It was resolved to forward the request to the Church Board of Property, with the recommendation that a loan of £350 be sanctioned. In view of the large number of immigrants arriving in' Now Zealand, more complete arrangements for the reception of those belonging to the Presbyterian Church are being contemplated. It was unanimously decided to place on record appreciation of the work done at Upper Hutt by Mr. and Mrs. Coates, who are about to bo transferred to the Waikato Presbytery., . ' . The deputation appointed to wait on tho Prime Minister with regard to the condition of affairs in the New Hebrides reported that any recommendation made by the General Assembly woiild be forwarded through the Government to the Imperial authorities.
