STATE BURSARIES.
POSITION OF ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS. (By Telegraph.—Special Corrcsnondcnt.) . Auckland, December 8. The following passage occurs in thf animal report of the Director of the Sacred Heart College:— "I regret to say that with regard ta Government bursaries we are no better off now than we were this time last year. It is true that the public sense of fair play is awakening' to the fact that a measure of educational justice is due to Catholics for the Government inspectors in conference passed a resolution that children attending Catholic schools should bo eligible to compete for. State bursaries, but while expressing- our gratitude to those responsible for recording that resolution wo wish to state that it covers but a small portion of the ground that we wish to cover, anjj' that until the holders of the bursaries aro allowed to avail of their own secondary schools for the benefit of- the bursary wo cannot regard our claims as satisfied,"
