LOANS TO WORKERS.
STJKPKISE AND INDIGNATION AT : WAIHI. IBr Telegraph.—Special Correspondeht.l ' # Auckland, December 8. Now that it is definitely known thai no further loans will be made to workers here by tho Board of Advances Office (writes, a Waihi correspondent) surprisa' and- indignation are being expressed in view of the fact that the Prime Minister stated in the House that under the amending Bill (reducing the term of repayments in mining districts) residents of Waihi would be enabled to borrow as usual. In this connection it is alleged that tho Advances Office can override the intention of the Act. As the.result of the passing of the amendment Bill many sections were purchased under the impression that the owner could borrow in terms of the shorter period of repayment. These sections will now be left upon the hands of the. purchasers who have no means, and the land may be "jumped." It is recognised that the life of the Waihi mine is as sound as ever. It is understood that strong representation will be made in the matter.
