7~»- ■ ■ •PETONE TECHNICAL SCHOOL. (Prom Our Snecial CorreSDpndent.) A meeting of the managers of tho Petone' Technical School, was held last evening, when there were present: The Rev. A. Thomson (chairman), and Messrs. Duncan, Baldwin, Castle, Mltenaie, Trueman, Jones, List, Soutbgate; and M'Ewan. In reference to tho question of rain water driving through the school'wall on the southern side, Mr. F. J. do Clero (architect) wrote pointing out that he had given instructions to havo the wall painted with a rain-proof coat, but tho work was not to bo proceeded with untiltho weather proved' suitable. In answer
to a question, Mr. Castlo (secretary) stated that there was .£l2 in hand 'in order.to carry out the work. It was resolved, on the chairman's motion, • that Mr. Clere be asked to see that the painting work bo carried out to tho board's satisfaction.
The sub-committeo set up to' reorganise the school syllabus recommended to the board: (1). That instructors be appointed if possiblo at tho last meeting of each year; (2)' that the most promising pupil in chemistry be appointed to assist tho honorary .teacher in that subject; (3) that scholarships be awarded for wood-work to tho most promising scholars at various schools.in the Hutt Valley; (4) that a certificate be awarded to the best pupils in each-class at the end of every year; (5) that the programme of school work bo set forth in the syllabus; (G) that reports bo sent each term to ■ parents of free-place pupils. It was also recommended by tho sub-committeo that a guarantee form bo forwarded to narents for. signature,-and that, if attendances were unsatisfactory, a notice should bo sent by the' director. ' The report 'on class fees showed that in some cases fees had been reduced, and- students attending for a complete year had received concessions. After a brief discussion the report was adopted. _ Miss Stewart, assistant dressmaker's instructress,-was voted an honorarium of £2. It was resolved to pay. tho caretakers salary during the school's recess. It was decided to write .to tho.Education Board asking if they were prepared to increase their payment towards tho caretaker s salary. It was Tesolved that, the .Director and all the. present instructors bo' reappointed to their, various offices for the ensuing year, providing that the, present-officers were willing to accept, and, further, providing that tho attendances in' tho various classes warrant continuation. It was resolved to purchase steamengine models, for the mechanical drawing and engineering classes. Reporting on tho results of tho classes during the past year, the Director (Mr Lynskey) stated that, on the whole, tho classes had-done excellent w,ork, bnt'tho attendances m some classes had not been up to ■ the mark. The outlook for the coming year' was promising. The total capitation earned by tho school for the year 1910 was
Speakras; to the report, Mr. Baldwin said that the Director must be congratulated for the .energy shown during the past year. "
Mr MEtoti said .that tho success of the school had largely been brought about by the capabilities of toe Director Ho would move that a bonus of £10 be voted in recognition of his services. Mr. Castle-endorsed all that had been said in favour of.Mr. Lynskey. He would second tho motion.
The-motion was carried unanimously A bonus of £2 2s. was granted the assistant secretary. *
