WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?
— $ ■— AUCKLAND MEMBERS AND THE TRAMWAY BILL. (By Toleerapli.—Special Correspondent.! , Auckland, December 2. Some criticism of the Auckland City members of Parliament was indulged' in at last niglit's meeting of the City Council in connection' with letters from various Ministers acknowledging the receipt of copies of the. resolution passed by tho council in regard to tho Tramways Bill. The Mayor (Mr. L. J. Bagnail) said the city members, especially Mr. Myers, had been very .energetic in keeping the council posted in regard to various matters during the session, and: ho moved that these members ba thanked. Several members, in chorus: What havo they done? Mr. P. 'J. Nerheny said that when, the Tramways Bill was going through the voice of not a single Auckland member was heard. • It was ridiculous : to talk of. thanking - members who had . done nothing. Mr. P. M. Mackay said it'would bo interesting to know where ,the city members were when tho Bill was going through. Of course, they knew thai Mr. Poole was fighting against the. nw terests of tile city, but where were Messrs. Myers and Glover? The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. Wilford) was the only man to raise his' voice in the in< terests of tho municipalities. Mr. Michaels said be did not thinlc there was anything to thank tho city members for; but they should certainly . thank Mr. Wilford. ' The Mayor having withdrawn his sug*, gestion in regard to thanks, the letters were formally received.
