SARGOOD CUP. "WON OUTRIGHT. : Por twenty-two years the Sargood Cup j has been keenly competed for at the "Wcl- | Huston Cluh's grem in Wordsworth p. Street, but up till last evening.no mem- j ber has won this much-coveted old tro- . phy two years in succession. As the ■ names of famous bowlers have been scored on its crowded silver sides,, the ; cup has become more valuable in a sentimental sense, and each year has seen a growing. interest in this singles competition. At last it has besn won outright (two years in succession) by G. D. Dall, Inspector of Post Offices, who played oft with Fleming Laurenson last evening before an' interested crowd of spectaotrs. The winner was "on the job" from the outset, and, drawing like a master, had compiled ten points to his opponent s one on the completion of Hie fifth head, and 23 to 3 on the fourteenth head. The runaway continued' to the end, when the score stood—Dall, 30; Laurenson, 10. At the conclusion of the game . three ■ ■ cheers were given for the winner, and a similar honour paid to .the- runner-up. ,; In response to a dmiand for a''speech, Mr. Dall thanked the members heartily for their congratulations. He had played a good many games since ho took to - bowls and had won many trophies, but' there was none he valued more highly than the Sargood Cup, which had been competed for 22 years on the Wellington Club's green. The many names that were inscribed -on the cup would always serve to remind him of the hard tussle i he had had and the good men he had j met in winning it. SCULLING.
