THE COUNCIL. DENTISTS AMENDMENT BILL. When the Legislative Council met at 2.30 yesterday afternoon, the report of the conference on the Dentists Amendment Bill, which contained a verbal transposition in one clause, was agreed to. TRAMWAYS CONTROL. The Tramways Amendment Bill was further considered in Committee. The Hon. 11. F. WIGRAM objected to Clause 7, which provides that plans and full details aro to accompany every application for an Order-in-Council. The Hon. J. E. JENKINSON moved that the words "full details" bo struck out of the clause. -. Tho amendment was lost on the voices. On Clause 8, .nroviding for a fine where a driver "fails to produce his certificate" when required to do so, The Hon. J. E. JENKINSON moved to add the words "without good and sufficient reason" after "certificate." Tho suggested addition was accepted by the Attorney-General. All the other clauses were passed with* minor amendments. Tho Hon. H. P. WIGRAM moved a new clause—"Nothing in this Act ehall apply to any tramway owned and managed by a local authority." The amendment was rejected on the voices,.and the Bill was reported with amendments, put through its third reading, and passed. \ . LAND SETTLEMENT FINANCE. The report of the conference on the Land Settlement Finance Amendment Bill was agreed to. on the motion of the Attorney-General. AMENDMENTS AGREED TO. Tho amendments made by his Excellency the Governor in the Thermal Springs Districts -Amendment Bill and the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill were agreed to. GREYMOUTH HARBOUR LOANS. The Greymouth Harbour Board Loans Consolidation Amendment Bill was put through Committee, a new clause being added to give full effect to the Bill. The measure was passed through its final stages. ■ ■ The Council rose at 5 p.m.
