« ME. BOWLING'S SALAEY. A Sydney cablegram. dated . November 30 stated that the>Aberdare Miners' Lodge "had adopted a resolution protesting against the extension of Mr. Peter Bowling's furlough, oa lull pay, and recommending that his salary sliould be deducted while he was absent in New Zealand. This was submitted yesterday to Mr. Bowling, and he explicitly challenged its aathentioity. "No resolution (granting extension on full pay) was passed bv the district of which the Aberdare Lodge forms part," said Mr. Bowling. "The resolution passed was that leave be granted me of a further extension of six weeks' absence from duty. It was clearly understood and publicly announced by myself that I was to receive a salary from the Federation of Labour in K«w Zealand, and that I would not continue to receive aDy salary from the Federation in New castle while I was engageu by the New Zealand organisation. So far as the cable is concerned, it cannot be. authentic, because the Aberdaro Lodge knows the facts as I have stated them. There can bo only ons reason, so far ns I can see, for sending the cable, that is to discredit me in the eyes of New Zealanders as being a man who would draw two salaries at one time. Those that know me best know that I will never bo guilty of nil action like that. Just to -show the confidence I have in the miners—tho election for my position takes place in the various lodges from December 1 to December 18. I have left them to decide for themselves in my absence whether I shall retain the position or not. I have not tho slightest doubt that those who opposed me for the position will be met by the same fate this time that they met formerly."' Miss Olwen Lloyd-George, tho elder daughter of tho Chancellor of tho Exchequer, was publicly baptised at Berea Disciples Church, Criccieth, recently. This is tho chapel in which Mr. Richard Lloyd, tho Chancellor's uncle, has been honorary minister for over half n century (says the ''Christian World" of October 6). Mr. Lloyd administered tho rito to his grandniece, and her ancle, Mr. William George, took part in the service, while the Chancellor of the Kxohcquer read tho Scripture lesson.
