Invercargill, December 1. i George Thomas Smyth, a well-known resident of Invercargill, manager of the ( (southland Brond Company, was acci- , dentally killed at 0.30 to-doy. Deceased , was stock-taking, and whilst the engine- ( room men were employed in' the bakehouse, they noticed .that the. machinery, driven by a gr.ss-enginp, was slowing, up. ( On going into the engine-room, they 1 found deceased lying on tho iloor witn i his head between the spokes of the flywheel of the engine. He had apparently slipped and fell with his head through the flywheel. He was quite dead. c Deceased wa.s prominent in the itnsonic ( body (New Zealand constitution), and was one time Provincial Grand fllaster ( and Grand Superintendent for Southland 1 in the Grand Lodge. He leaves a widow 1 and family of four, whose ages rango \ from eighteen to three years. A THROWN OUT OF A TRAP. 1 Timaru, December 1. \ At. noon to-day a young, man named t J. Ho was 1 an old age pensioner, about '70 years of age, and was well known in Lyttelton, r where ho worked as a carpenter. Ho [, lived by himself in a little cottage, and, 1' when the milk-boy called this morning r he received no answer.
