OBITUARY.
'..-MR.'GEORGE GRAY. Tho death occurred at 1.15 a.m. yesterday of Mr. George Gray, Into Accountant of the Post and Telegraph Department, and a brother to the late Mr. William Gray, formerly Secretary to the Post and Telegraph department. The deceased, who had been in extremely poor health for a long timo, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 18JC, and when sis years of age came-to.New- Zealand with his parents in the ship Simla, landing at New Plymouth. His father, tho late Mr. William Gray, senior, was for many years Inspector of Post Offices, and occupied the office of secretary at his death. : Itr. Georgo Gray; who was educated first in Taranaki, and later in Nelson, joined the Telegraph' Department in 1557. He was subsequently promoted to tho. position of senior clerk .in tho accountant's branch of tho combined Post and Telegraph Department. In 1831, upon Mr.- J. K. Warburton taking, up the position of Public Trustee, Mr. Gray was appointed to his late position,, which he held until his retirement on pension , at the end of March, 1907.' The.deceased was of a kind, and amiable disposition, and very, popular. in', tho Service. : Ho was an earnest worker in connection with tho ; Vivian Street Church of Christ,"in tho affairs of which he took a,-deep, interest. His favourite outdoor recreation wns gardening. Mr. Ales. Gray, barrister and solicitor, of "Wellington, is a brother of the deceased. ME. A. RUSSELL-BOROUGH ENGINEER. (By Correspondent.) Wanjjanui, November 17. Much regret has been occasioned here by the death of Mr. Alex. -■ Russell, borough engineer, which occurred yesterday morning. Mr. Russell underwent a severe operation early, last week, and for soma days appeared to bo improving, buf a- collapse set in yesterday, however, and he was unable to rally. By his death the borough loses a most capable, painstaking and practical officor, who had done especially valuable work in preparation of schemes.in connection with the recent annexation of suburban areas to the borough.
