THAT INDIGNATION MEETING AT OTAKI.

Sir, —In reading your valuable paper I--was rather struck with the "Otaki Notes" of the so-called indignatfon meeting hold in the Druids' Hall. Now, sir, I will ask, was it a representative meeting of those in the proposed new Poiiuty? Certainly not. The " conveners (mostly defeated candidates \by tho present councillors) took very fine care to have' the meeting, in Otaki, which is some twenty-five miles from Paekakariki, knowing well the ratepayers would not travel fifty miles to hear a few defeated ' candidates give vent to their feelings. Now, sir, if these few indignant persons thought that the feelings of ratepayers were as bitter as theirs against the Government and our member, why, then, did they not hold meetings in diffeent, parts of the districts,..or hold one in the centre, say, Waikanao? No, sir, - they knew too much. Otaki is'fighting for a borough, iiijd is divided..in that..matter, as some want a new county, hence tho reason for their meeting, when only about fifty were present, including nine out of the ten conveners, and some that only went for the fun. There is- no doubt your correspondent made tho best of a bad job,' as it has no doubt pinched them through the new Counties . Bill being thrown out; and, furthermore, when you see that .one of the conveners (a solicitor) had to.proposo the motion, and a chemist tho seconder, both of whom are living in the proposed. borough area, your readers can . judge for themselves, as there are some very large ratepayers . bot-ween Paekakariki and Ohau. In conclusion, Mr. Editor,l would not have troubled you, only knowing the amount- of. circulation your valuable paper has, and a report like the one I read is likely to mislead some of .your reader^.—l am, etc., / PRINCIPIIS OBSTA.
