A deputation representing the employees, who are under the Railway Commissioner, has. asked the Premier (Mr. M'Growen) to abolish the eyesight test and substitute a practical test. It was stated that many failed in the colour test through ignorance, and not through colour blindness. It was also asked that the Appeal Board Act should be amended to provide for an independent chairman, and also for a tramway representative on the board; that all cars bo provided with oovered-in fronts; and that employees be paid when absent through sickness. Mr. M'Gowen gave a sympathetic reply, but pointed out that the matters raised wore matters of administration which would . have to be referred to the Commissioner. This he promised to .do.
