Complaints being made that unregistered dogs were still numerous in the c-ounty, it was decided that the collector bo urged to complete his contract beloro llio next meeting of the. council. ~ • "■ H. Newson wrote, stating tiiat tie desired to erect a fence antl "Jildmgs 011 his section (No. 64, town or lawa), but the approach, by Collins's A\ enue, was blocked by a railway fence. Ihe writer asked that the fence bo removed within fourteen days, or he would .cut it down. Gates should havo been erected across Collins's Avenue. _ To uso the gates in their present position involved passing through privato property on both sides. It was explained that tho gates now standing had been erected on an old private road. -The public road (Collins's Avenue) had never been declared open. Tho clerk (instructed by the chairman) had written Mr. Newson to the effect that he might bo held liable for an offence if ho cut down the fence. The council decided to invito Mr. Newson to attend its next meeting and explain the position. The Karori Borough -Council notified I that six lamps ill tho South Karori District, of benefit only to Makara ratepayers, would be discontinued unless the council desired that they should remain for the benefit of the said ratepayers.—Received.. Mr. J. Thompson tendered his resignation as county ranger. The resignation was accepted/ Mr. Fisher was appointed to fill the vacant position. Two cases of scarlatina in the county were reported.. Addressing tho Makara Road Board, now merged in the council, Messrs. Chapman, Skerrett, and Wylie, on behalf of Mr. Cooke, asked that effect be given to a resolution of the board on August 5, 1899, that tho Makara Beach Road be fenced. Under an agreement, dated 1899, the board had tq fence the road within two years. Mr. Cooke,, it was remarked, had given the board a lengthy, extension of time,, and desired now that the agreement should bo carried out. . The council docliried to admit liability in tho matter. The chairman stated - that Messrs. Mace and Nicholson intended to run a traction engine over the Ngahauranga Gorge Road, lo tho abattoirs, conveying bricks. The roadman bad reported that one bridge and one half bridge needed attention to malco them equal to such heavy traffic. Tho council's by-laws prohibited the running of traffic of this naturo'over. bridges. The. question was whether the council should take a -stand, and enforce its by-laws.— It was resolved that the bj'-laws bo enforced. ■ _ ; . Necessary repairs to bridges in< the Forirua riding were approved. Accounts amounting to £232 4s. lid. were passed for payment. j
