TO-DAY'S CARNIVAL.
AN ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME. Punctually at 2 p.m. the athletic sports, theatrical and side show carnival will be launched at the Newtown Park in its endeavour, to raise a goodly sum on behalf of the Rev. Mother Aubert's Homes (a very deserving object). Great preparations have been made so as to assure the success of this afternoon's outing. Seldom has such a combination of novel attractions been placed before the public, the chief attractions being theatrical performances given by the Pliminei'-Denniston Dramatic and Fullers' Vaudeville Companies. The ladies''beauty should attract much attention, for the winner is to receive an exceptionally valuable trophy. A baby show will be held for babies of all .aaes and sizes. The Newtown Park will abound in tea kiosks, fortune-tellers, and a .bevy of young ladies will sell . cigars and cigarettes. Prof. Dovey's pupils will give an exhibition of 'physical. culture to musical accompaniments, Miss Holmes's children will present fancy Japanese dances, whilst Old Aunt Sally and Punch and Judy will add to the merriment of this afternoon's fete. The Wellington. Garrison and Tramway Bands have willingly given their services, and it is fully expected that Newtown Park be beseiged with patrons. •' The following have donated prizes for the sports events:—Lady Ward, Mrs. T. G. Macarthy, Messrs. Kempthorne, Progser and Co., G. Aldons, Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., J. Myers and Co., Pearson and Co., Bannatyne and Co., Smith and Smith, Reid and Reid, Briscoe, M'Neil, Abbott, Oram and Co., B. Hayman and Co., Wellington Woollen Co., Castendyke and Co., Jackson and Co., J. Duthie and Co., R. Holliday, G.. White and Co., J. B. Speed, R. Wilson and Co. Entries for the baby show (under 2 years) will close at 2.45. There .are to. be twelve prizes awarded by ballot, the champion baby to receive a handsome silver mug presented by the local agents for Mellin's Pood. Entries for the beauty show will' close at 3.30. Ladies entering should be at the Beauty Tent, not 1 later than 3.15. ' In the event of rain the fete mil be held in the Town Hall afternoon and evening. All the. entertainments will be given, and all the sideshows, etc.
