On Wednesday evening the local Druids held a smoke concert, and gave a "sendoff" to Mr., L. O'Connor, their late secretary, who has obtained a position with a firm of Wellington solicitors. Bro. J. Murray was in the chair, and there was a good attendance. .Songs were contributed ..by Brothers Tilling,'. Armstrong, M'Allistcr,. M'Grath, and Callaghan. BrosV/E. King, Jas;., Murray, and J. Gardner gave recitations. Bro. T. Lind referred to the good work which Bro.. O'Connor had performed during his term' of office, and wished him- the best of good fortune in liis new sphere. . Bro. The monthly meeting of the ■ Oroua County Council was held' this week. Present: Councillors G.'C. Wheeler/(chairman), Hugh Burrell, W. ; G. Pearce, Thos. Rowling, W. Reed, and J. Vincent. The Taranaki County Council asked tho'council to support the By-laws Bill. : It was decided to .purchase a steam roa.d roller and, grubber.- The chairman /reported' that the plans and specifications for the Menzie's Ford Bridge were in .course of preparation at' the Public Works Office; .It was decided to recommend 00 : ; feet spans' as; the most serviceable. The' chair-, man reported that the Reu Reu Road had at last been declared, to bo a public road. For some years there had been ' trouble with the natives regarding the dedication of this road. The council now intended to proceed to have the road formed, and as a Maori had placed a garden right across it there.would probably be more trouble. .The county/treasurer presented the following report:—Rates levied, 190911, .JM7BB Is.: Id.; "outstanding, 15s. 2d.;. levied, 1910-11, *1839; collected, JE1143 18s.
