SWIMMING.
THE WELLINGTON CLUB,
The amraal"-meetirig of the Wellington Swimming Club - was ' held at the IY.M.CA. last Evening, Dr. W. A. .Chappie, M.P:' '(Stirling;. Scotland), president of: the club,:in the chair. .There .was "an. attendance of about GO gaembers. The annual report and bal-ence-sheet (already published) wore tead and adopted. • The president congratulated the club on thevery satisfactory condition of its affairs, and said
that it had no reason to fear the future, its present position was largely duo to tho fact that its destinies had been controlled by officers who had had the fosering of the art of swimming at heart. (Applause.) ■ Mr. K. 0. Renner, in a reminiscent speech, referred to the steady progress of tho club's.membership roll. It commenced with ■■ between ,40 and, •50 members' in .1894; to-day, the membership was 215.■.' (Applause.) Ho referred, to the indebtedness of the club to its old president, Dr.•Chappie, who had taken the chair at eleven annual meetings of its •members'. (Applause.) .'• Tho club liad"sustained; a 'heavy loss. when■'.the doctor'left' New Zealand tc settle in tho Old Country.
