; OVERSEA SHIPPING. '' According to the official reports in the advance sheets of the Year Book the de-mands-of a rapidly-growing external trade have,during the past ten years, attraoted the service of vessels,of largely increased tonnage. In,. 1900 the steam, vessels entered imvard from tho'United Kingdom with cargoes numbered 55, with an averago of 3G03 tons net register, and in 1909 tho number was 88 vessels, ■ averaging 457G tons. In 1900 the total number of oversea steam vessels entered inward was 371, with a total net register of 728,581 tons, an average for each vessel of 1964 tons. In 1909 tho. oversea steamers entered numbered 445, with o total of 1,180,393 tons net, an average, of 2GOG tons per vessel. In the fprmor year the number of oversea sailing ships entered was 245, with a total of, 126,051 tons, as against. 160 ships and 77,542 tons in 1909-
