MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY.
The first "gentlemen's evening" in connection , with.. the Sydney . Street and Northland Primitive . Methodist • Mutual Improvement' Socioty was, held on 'Wed-, ncsday evening. It proved".a'great success. There was a large, and:appreciative audience. ~ The.'programme was of a varied character. ' Songs were given by Messrs.•.P.. Cutfortlr (2),. W. A. Manning (2), E. Daw'son, and the Revs. P. J. Cossum and H.Cottom; a pianoforte solo by Mr, H. Snclling, a clarionet solo by Air. F. Hune, a. duet by Messrs. P. Cutforth and E. Dawsou, recitations by', the Revs. P. A. Thompson and C. A. Sims and Mr. G. Coad, and several glees were ren-; dered in fine style by eight gentlemen, under..the..leadership.of Mγ. E.. Dnwson. A humorous dialogue, entitled "Wanted —A Confidential Clerk,'; , . .was also/acted by six gentlemen members.. Mr., F. Kane was'accompanist, which position he filled with great credit. .Mr. J. Cable deserves much praise'for the manner in which the programme, was , so success- 1 fully, arranged by. him. ■'■"..' , ,
