"Daily News," discussing tho House of Lords's decision in the Osborne case, in which it was laid down that trades union funds could not be applied ■for political purposes, says the most experienced trades union officials are convinced that to expect voluntary contributions by the unions is useless.
A branch consisting of a hundred members recently adopted a voluntary levy, and the following week two members only paid up. ■■
The irony of the position lies in Labour having based itself on its independence of Liberalism and Toryism, and now being obliged to ' appeal to. one blotter of the old parties for the reform it desires. Meanwhile the Labour party is much embarrassed, and its municipal and Parliamentary candidatures have been reduced to a minimum;
