IMPORTANT TIMBER CHARTERS. (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.-,' Wariganui, August 13. There lias been ;t renewal 6{. activity in the timber export' trade from -Wa•igauui, and the barquentines Aloxa and Ulna have been chartered to take two and a half million feet;of white pino to Australia during the next twelve months; -The vessels, which are now loading tho first shipments of their charter, will carry return cargoes of hardwood, coal, and general merchandise. There has been another change in local legal, firms, Mr. J. D. W. M'Beth having joined Mr; C. Burnett. .The new firm will practise as Burnett and M'Beth. Mr. Jordan, champion draughts player, visits Wauganm next month, and local players are arranging a big reception in his honour. .Tenders closed, yesterday for the lease of the various sections into which, the valuable Technical School site in the Avouue has been cut up. Sixteen separate tenders Jiave been received, and it is understood that when they have been dealt with, the leases will return the' Education Board ah income close on £1000 per annum: - The death was announced this morning of Mrs. Christie; wife of Mr. Hector Christie, solicitor. Tho various branches of tho Beautifying Society continue to do excellent work. . The latest work done is the formation of a low-level promenado along tho face of,the town side of tho river bank near Aramoho, where a large number of ornamental trees havo also been planted. Tho Castlecliff Town Board is arranging for working, bees for the pur-' pose of planting the beach at the seaside suburb. ■■'''■.
