REFERRED BACK.
ISLAND BAT STORM-WATER CULVERT. The Island Bay storm-water culvert has been inspected by the Outlying Districts" Committee of the City Council, and the following recommendations of the committee were submitted to the councillast night"'that the original scheme of completing the 'portion of Mersey Street, and the construction of side drains from Mersey Street and Ribble Street be adhered to; that the owners of property through which the creek Hows be called upon to clear, the same forthwith; and that the. city engineer widen
.lie portion of the' creek which is. not yet'eulverted."
Councillor Fitzgerald objected that this was not a true report of the proceedings of the committee. He was under the impression, which was supported by 'Councillor Carmicbael, that the committee decided to postpone consideration of the matter till the engineer had ascertained whether property-owners would contribute towards the culverting. Councillor Hindmarsh moved an amendment. that the final clause of the report be referred back to the committee in order that something , might be done in regard to the gap between the formed part and the tramway terminus. Finally, as there was a difference of opinion as to what the . committee had decided, the whole report was referred .
