The Wanganui and Wanganui East Borough Councils met in conference last night regarding the proposed new traffic bridge. The suburban council,-, following, the Public Works Department's recommendation, desired to have a - wooden structure, but the/'Wanganui. Council was totally opposed to such' Mr* ideaV' 'Finally? the suburbanites gave .way, and a steel 'bridge was agreed upon.. It was decided that' ihe Wanganui Council should let the .contract, supervise the building, and control the bridge when finished, the cost of maintenance to be borne equally, and the mainway revenue on the bridge section to be equally divided..'. As country people benefit'by the bridge,'it'was also resolved- that the Wanganui and Waitctara County Councils be oited to appear before a Royal Commission with a view to their contributing a portion of the cost. The necessary agreement, embodying these points, is to be drawn up without delay for execution by the two borough councils, after which polls of the ratepayers of both boroughs will be taken in order to obtain- the necessary sanction for the raising of a loan.' The .site proposed for the bridge is at Dublin Street.
