' A letter was "received - from the Wel» • lington Gas Company in which it. was • suggested that the borough should, as an encouragement to the company to extend , its .mains into the district, grant it a ... . share-of the .borough lighting.. The let- . ter was referred to the Street Lighting Committee. , The Mayor announced'that he had re- ■' waved a letter from Councillors Wedde - ■- and Standen, on the subject of the "■•' Karori-Wellington-ria-Kelburno tramway "•" I proposal. He presumed from the nature i of the context that the letter was a pri- : vate one, but as it was not so marked, he gave it out, and invited discussion. . The writers suggested that a committee • might be set up to investigate the whole .. question and report—virtually a rescission'.', of a previous decision of the council. There was no discussion and the letter was therefore "received." ~ It was decided'' that the Mayor be authorised to confer with the city engineer and the city electrical engineer (Messrs.Morton and Kichardson), with reference to the tenders - for the borough's tram- . way material. .
