FIRES.
.CUBA. STREET.' OUTBREAK. The fire brigade were called bilk'at 9.21 o'clock last evening, the scene being at Messrs. Robert Hannah and, Co., Ltd.'s premises in Cuba Street. The fire originated in the basement, in the portion used as an engine-room. By the use of chemicals and the hand-pump, tho flames were confined -to the ceiling. Little damage. was done to the goods stored on the floor above, and the machinery is most probably damaged by heat only.
CALL TO, HOPPER STREET. The , brigade, were summoned at 7 o'clock'yesterday morning to an incipient fire in a kitchen attached to Mr. Hugh Reid's bakery and dwelling in Hopper Street. The flames' were extinguished after some damage had been done to tho kitchen wall. The contents were uninsured, but it is understood that the building, which is owned by Mr. Jamieson, of Wangamii, is covered' by insurance. STORE AND RESIDENCE. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, July 26. The business premises and residence of George Wilson, general storekeeper, Ruatoki, were destroyed by fire this morning. The damage is estimated at over £2000.
