THE MILITARY APPEAL BOARD.
SEVERELY CRITICISED,
One portion of the new Defence Act Amendment Bill, which is coming in for a good deal of adverse criticism m the lobbies is the proposed new Military Board of Appeal. It is generally believed that such a suggestion would never have been made it it had not been for the Knyvett case. A number of members on both-sides of the House told a Dominion reporter on Satuiday that they considered the introduction of civil authority in connection with such a board very injudicious if not highly dangerous. "Undoubtedly, remarked one member, "the Government lias yielded to the clamour raised m regard to the Knyvett case. "AUat w worse, it has, by the introduction of this new proposal, supported^ the denunciation of purely military boards to deal with military matters. The effect will bo detrimental in military circles. It is understood that the Government mav not persist with the proposal in view of the hostility which it has provoked. .
