DAVIS CUP COMPETITION. ily Tclcsraph-Press Association—Copyriehl Sydney, July 5. .The Australian Lawn Tennis Association has considered England's demand for a guarantee of £800 in connection with the Davis Cup competition. It was decided to reply with aji offer to the losers of one-third of the profits from matches in other States, in addition to their, share of the takings in connection' with the preliminary tie games.. Tho association will guarantee no less than £600 for at least-three approved players. It is offering America tho same terms.

HARRIERS,

BROOKLYN CLUB. The first of the monthly meetings arranged by the Brooklyn Harriers for the purpose-of bringing club members together in a social way was hold last evening in tho Y.M.C.A. rooms. Mr, Philp, working vice-president of the club, was in tho chair. Club members attended in large numbers, and therewas also a sprinkling of outsiders. Three of the visitors, Messrs. Curry, Pollock, and Finn, related some interesting experiences in connection with harrier runs of their clubs. Mr. Wilton, club captain, spoke on "Club runs, and how they should be conducted," and Mr. Bea'ven read a paper on "Harrierism," tracing the sport from its early beginnings, and referring to its growth and increased popularity. Mr. It. A. Wright, M.P., president of tho club, addressed the meeting on the value-of athletic games, urging the necessity for abstinence irom intoxicating liquors during periods of training. Dr. Couzcns subsequently gave, ah interesting talk on training methods 'and the proper care of the body. The speakers were heartily thanked for their addresses.
