There was general agreement in tlio sub-committee as to the abiding obligation that lies upon the State, 1101 only to render practical obedience to the will of Christ in matters of policy legislation, etc., but to take account of the Church of Christ also, to acknowledge the several branches thereof us institutions founded ou faith and con science, and responsible in. tilings spiritual to Christ alone, and to' further the interests of the kingdom of God in all appropriate ways. The difficulties with wiufch the conference is confronted however, arise out of the existing situation as embodying the principle referred to m a special relation of the State to the Church 'of Scotland. An extension of tnne is asked for b.v the committoo tor further discussion of the questions winch have now been-opened up.
