A tour through tho country districts reveals the fact that there ia already • a largo area of land sown in cereals, chiefly winter wheat and autumn-sown oats, sap the "Ashburton Guardian." Much of the latter class of crop has been badly destroyed by the grass grubs, and in many parts tiie wheat crop is just coming through the ground. Asked as to why some of the wheat was coming up irregularly, a farmer informed a reporter that it was undoubtedly due- to the fact that the grain* sown had been exposed to the weather last harvest, and its germinating power had thus been more or iess destroyed. Tho same farmer went on to say that, personally, he believed in sowing the best seed procurable, and be, always made a point of getting grain for seed purposes that had been produced by .an entirely different .class of soil to that on his own property. He thought that by changing the seed, say, every two years, lie obtained a better yield, and a superior quality of grain.

The ploughing in various parts of the Wairarapa, after having been interrupted by the rains which fell until a few days ago, will bo resumed eagerly, particular! v if there is frost, about.
