This was the New Zealand-bred colt Gold Cord, by Kilcheran from Spun Gold. He proved too good at the finish for another .New Zealander in Martyre (by Martian), who was a hot favourite. C. Jenkins will ride Kildonnn in the hack race at Hastings to-day. Mr. Watt's Kilcheran gelding is stated to have improved out of all Knowledge, and looks better now than previously. .• Oxton was schooled over tho hurdles at Hastings yesterday, and jumped badly, while Glen, who has winning form to his credit, gave a very efficient showing. Tlio ■latter is to bo ridden by tho crack horseman, T. Pritchard, who is at present heading tho list of winning riders over hurdles. Corazon is a doubtful starter- in-the' Maiden Steeples at Hastings to-day, and it is said he is being reserved for the second day. Diplomatic arrived at Hastings on Monday night, and yesterday morning ho gave a very creditable display ovev tlio steeple-course fences. At the present time he looks better than at any time during his career. Mr. G. Hirst has gone over to Hastings, and will ride Mahuta in the Ladies' Bracelet to-day. Through tho scratching of Paisano for all events, there will only bo three moderates to oppose Prophet in tho Turamoe Hurdles to-day. The Canterbury sportsman, Mr. D. Rutherford, was a passenger to Napier by the express train yesterday. Ho will be present at Hastings to-day to see' his horses, Eurus and Northern Star, compete in the Hawke's Bay Steeples.
