MINISTER'S STIPENDS.
e IN THE.PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. (By Tclecraph—Press Association.t Christchurch, June 14. At a meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery to-day, the Rev. B. Wood gave notice of the following overture to the General* Assembly:—lt is hereby overtured by the Presbytery of Christchurch to the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church appointed to meet in Auckland on November 0, 1010, that, whereas it is a principle laid down in Holy ScrTphiro that ministers of the Gospel should have adequate provision made for their support, so as to enable them to labour in the' Gospel freed from ansiety about material tilings, and whereas during the last twelve years there has been a steady rise in the cost of living whilo the minimum stipend has remained at the low standard of J:l7.i in charges from the Waitaki to the North Cape, and whereas the minimum stipend of .£175 is not adequate maintenance, and is nearly „E)5 less than the minimum stipend p'aid in Otago last year, and is very considerably lower than minimum stipends paid in Australia and the Homeland, tho assembly is asked to consider this matter, and by enactment or otherwise provide that "an adequate stipend be paid to nil ministers in sanctioned charges, or to deal with the question in such a way as the assembly in its wisdom may deem best." -..
