COAL FOR THE NAVY.
PAPAROA' RECEIVES A LARGE ' ORDER. For some time' past the ships of the British Navy in Australasian waters have used Westport coal for steaming purposes. A few days ago it was announced that after making exhaustive trials with Paparoa coal (from the mountains at the back of Greymouth) the Admiralty had placed a large order with the Paparoa Coal Company.. The fact is an important one, not. only for New Zealand, but for Australasia, as it gives the Navy a second port from which supr plies .of the highest grade coal can be obtained. This is good for the Dominion. Tho knowledge that we at present have at least two sources-of supply for coal that has stood the severe tests demanded by the Admiralty must be gratifying tc those sufficiently interested -in the international question to' appreciate the value of coal stations such as Westport and Greymouth.
