GAS EXTENSION PROPOSAL.
« DISCUSSED BT ONSLOW COUNCIL, The 'Wellington Gas Company is endeavouring to extend its operations to ■Ngaio, Khandallah, and Johnsonville,. The matter was before the Onslow Bor- ■ ough Council last night. Mr. W. Ferguson, managing director of the Gas Company, wrote asking the council's support and assistance in a project to lay gas mains to supply the more denselj populated portions of the borough and the town district of Johnsonville. He also asked the council to reconsider its decision to substitute electricity for gas in the public lighting of Kaiwarra, and asked_ tha,t councillors should inspect s new inverted burner with a clock-work arrangement for lighting and extinguishing, which he had caused 'to be erected - at Kaiwarra. A committee of the council had discussed, the matter with Mr. Ferguson, but was not prepared with anj recommendation. It was resolved to seek further information from Mr. FeTguson, and also to consult the borough solicitors as to the position of the borough generally under the Electric Lighting Syndicate's agreement, l and especially as to the council's right to terminate the agreement and to light the streets with any other illuminant.
