HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening, there being present Mr. B. 1 , . Bunny (Mayor) and Councillors Barlow, Macaskill, Hayes, Kempthorne, Hawthorn, Clere, Baldwin, and Anson. The Wellington City Council requested the Hutt Council to take part in the reception to the new Governor. The council decided to attend. JMr. L. Gwilliam complained of the condition of certain premises. 'It was resolved that the inspector insist on tho by-laws being adhered to. Mr. C. H. Treadwell asked that, he be excused from having his premises connected with the council's drainage system, on the ground, that he had adequate drainage, together with a septic tank. The engineer was instructed to report on the matter. i The Hutt Park Committee applied for monetary assistance. It was resolved to grants the sum of £W to the committee.
Mr. E. P. Bunny (Mayor) was appointed the council's dolgate at the forthcoming Municipal Associations', conference at Wellington. Referring to the claim of- Messrs. Mcason and Merchant against the council for ,£39G ISs., Mr. C. B. Morison (solicitor) requested that. if tho council would not agree to 'this payment, that the whole matter be submitted to arbitration in terms of the agreement of February 9, 1906. It was decided that Mr. D. F. Martin bo appointed tho council's arbitrator.
The .chairman of the Hutt School forwarded a copy of a resolution recently passed at a meeting of Lower Hutt burgesses, which recommended tho council to.subiiiit to the Gpvcrnment, the section of'land originally acquired for a gasworks site for a High School for the Hutt Valley. On the motion of tho Mayor, it was decided to obtain, tho borough solicitor's, opinion, as to whether the section could be used for what it was required. No action was taken in reference to the Pctono Ambulance Wagon Fund Committee's request for a donation, it being the opinion of the council that further information was required. In reference to the establishment of a borough abattoir, the council resolved that Hie meat-killing should bo done at the Wellington Council's abattoirs. On the motion of Councillor Hawthorn, it was resolved to set up., a committee consisting of Councillors Kempthorne and Hawthorn and the Mayor lor the purpose of -ascertaining the possibility -of consolidation of its loans and to provido a sinking fund for the same. A special meeting of tho council -will bo hold on Thursday evening next to consider the estimates and to receive a deputation of Alicetown residents. The engineer reported that the laying of newer mains in Fitzherbert Street had been completed. In accordance with instructions the work in connection with the eastern drainage has been put in hand. The Everest Creek diversion work is progressing c satisfactorily. Thirtyseven chains oNculvet going west of the rivor are now complete. Twenty connections had been made with the watermains, and three new gas services had been installed.
