Members of the local Roman Catholic Church held their monthly "social" and dauco in tho Druids' Hall on Friday evening, when a large assembly, thoroughly enjoyed the evening's entertainment. A feature of the "social" was an Irish jig danced by Mrs. Al. Moynihn.ll and Mr. J. Curran. The ladies provided refreshments. The assembly will be held monthly throughout the winter, and the proceeds will be devoted to the Church funds. The local junior football team was defeated at Koputarua on Saturday by M points to nil. The Otalci Club was due to play the seniors at Shannon, but tailed to put in an appearance. REIKORANGI. The creamery closed down at the end of last month, after the most successful season which has been experienced locally, although the tests did not reach the averago of other years. Workmen are pushing on with the Hutt-Waikanae Koad, and, up to last week, have had very favourable weather. The writer cannot understand why the Tourist Department does not urge tho Government to complete this road, as it has become a favourite route for tourists on account of it being so close to Wellington, to say nothing about the splendid country thro.ugh which it leads the traveller. The Bachelors' Ball takes place next Friday night. /All arrangements are in tho hands of an energetic pommittee, and, judging by the elaborate preparations that are being made, the function should be a great success. 4 school concert will be held shortly for the purpose of increasing funds for the school. Residents have been led to understand that the Education Board intends to improve the school. It is to bo hoped that they will decide to have the addition made at the same time, as it is much needed. At the last meeting of the School Committee, it was decided to ask Messrs. W. H. Field, M.P., and H. E. Elder, to visit the school, so that ho- could see the need of the addition.
